La Mirada remains one of the safest cities in Los Angeles County based on the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program with emergency response time under 4 minutes.

  • In 2019, the city recorded its third lowest crime rate within the past three decades.

  • From 2015 to 2019, the average number of crimes reported per 10,000 residents is 195, making La Mirada the safest city in the southeast region.  The average emergency response time during this period is 3.8 minutes. 

  • Safewise, an independent organization that uses FBI reporting data for their comparisons, ranked La Mirada as one of the safest cities in California: top 10% of in 2015 (#48), top 16% in 2017 (#77), and top 15% in 2019 (#75). 

  • In 2017, the National Council for Home Safety and Security organization also recognized La Mirada as one of the safest cities in California.


La Mirada was ranked #11 by the State Auditor as one of California's most financially stable cities and received an S&P long-term rating of AA, reflecting our strong commitment to responsible governance and fiscal discipline.

  • In 2019, the State Auditor conducted an independent study on fiscal health of 471 cities that resulted in La Mirada ranking #11.  Only one city in the entire County has a higher ranking.     

  • In 2017, an independent government study by Senator John Moorlach placed La Mirada in the top 8% of all California cities in fiscal leadership and financial management. 

  • In 2016, Standard & Poors gave La Mirada a credit rating of AA+ & Long-term rating of AA, a validation of the city's judicious fiscal policies and strong financial position.  In the same year, United States Common Sense, a national organization dedicated to open government data and citizen education, ranked La Mirada in the top 96th percentile for overall fiscal health. 

  • Even in an inevitable recession, we are well-positioned to fund the programs and services necessary to keep our residents safe, make capital improvements, and invest in aging infrastructures.  


The MyLaMirada Smartphone App was introduced in September 2016 as a more efficient way to address potential threats to safety before they degenerate into criminogenic environments. Today, we have over 2,751 registered users and processed over thousands of service requests through the use of this application. 

  • Introduced and adopted by the city: MyLaMirada App, Captain K-9 Dog Walker Program, mobile Auto License PLate Recognition System (ALPRS) in patrol cars, Security Camera Rebate Program (partnership with, College Banner Program, Farmer's Market, and Small Business Educational Training Series.
