Why I Am Seeking Re-election

La Mirada residents want an ethical and credible leader with strong values, skills, and experience whom they can trust to make decisions that are best for their community.  With more than 25 years of executive experience shaping public policies, I believe I have the leadership, problem-solving acumen, and relevant government expertise to make La Mirada the community we chose to live, play, and work in.

Historic Accomplishments Over the Last Five Years

  • La Mirada remains one of the safest cities in Los Angeles County with an emergency response time of under 4 minutes. In fact, 2019 recorded its third lowest crime rate within the past three decades.

  • The city was ranked #11 by the State Auditor as one of California’s most financially stable cities in 2019 and received an S&P long-term rating of AA in 2016, reflecting our strong commitment to fiscal discipline.

We Cannot Stay Complacent

  • Property Crimes. California Props 47 and 57 have declassified some felony. transgressions to misdemeanors and made violent offenders eligible for early release, causing crimes to rise across the region.
  • Homelessness. The rapid rise of the homeless population in our neighboring cities is beginning to impact our community. As of June 2019, the city has identified 30 homeless individuals using a "point-in-time" method. We will continue to provide funding for social service agencies and match them to appropriate services.
  • Housing Mandate. State laws designed to arbitrarily allocate new housing units to cities without regard to existing local zoning ordinances are threatening the character of our community

My Priorities,...Protect Our Core Values and Lead Us Into the 21st Century

  • Unwavering Commitment to Public Safety. Advance police-community partnerships by engaging residents to participate in crime prevention and using technology to immediately address potential threats before they degenerate into criminogenic environments.
  • Prudent Financial Management. Develop prudent fiscal policies to build up a healthy reserve fund and prepare for an inevitable economic recession and unexpected emergencies.
  • Relentless Pursuit of Innovative Solutions. Bring new ideas to make government more efficient.  For example, explore opportunities to integrate economically sustainable energy efficiency solutions (i.e., solar panels, LED lights, etc.) to augment our infrastructure programs.

My Personal Values

My parents immigrated to the U.S. 50 years ago in search of a better life for their 7 children. Because of the language barrier, they worked menial jobs in substandard conditions just to put food on the table and I would be remiss if I did not work hard every minute to honor them for their sacrifices. My childhood experience of poverty and gang violence gave me the perspective, motivation, and resolve to pursue my own dreams and better communities.

My Family

My wife, Cathy, is a school teacher in the ABC Unified School District and she has been impacting children for more than 28 years in the classroom.  Our son, Brandon, graduated from La Mirada High School as the valedictorian, earned a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley, and is currently a Business Analyst for Amazon.
